I am trying to put some of my own work on my Kindle Touch (so 3rd generation I think) and I am writing it in notepad, saving as html then converting to mobi via Calibre. Only problem is I can't get kindle to page break. Looking online gives me the command to do so but it does nothing.

On a page with absolutely NOTHING else but two simple lines of text I have tried:

<mbp:pagebreak/>

<mbp:pagebreak />

<mbp:pagebreak>

But none of those commands gives me a second page. What am I doing wrong? Is it something to do with the conversion to MOBI? Tearing my hair out here. Can't figure out how to chapter break either, but that's later. Right now I am focusing on baby steps.

SSJPabs,

I'm going to move this to the Writers' Café, where our author-members hang out discussing the craft and business of writing. Someone will help you.

FYI--If you have a Kindle Touch, that is different from the Kindle 3rd Gen which here is usually referred to as the Kindle Keyboard. The fourth generation is also known as the basic or baby Kindle. And then there's the PaperWhite.

Thanks!

Thank you very much, sorry I screwed up in the first place.
Not a problem! Just trying to make sure you get the answers you need! You're in good hands with Jeff!

Is that CSS? I don't have a clue about CSS, what it is or how to use it in this case.
If you can do HTML, you can do CSS. Check out Guido Henkel's guide for coding ebooks. I knew zero CSS before this (and only enough HTML to get by) and now I use it for all my books. I think he delves into it in the 4th or 5th part.

If anything's confusing, just ask. CSS is a massive time-saver and you'll be very glad you learned it.

Yes. It's easy to use. Here's a page that may be helpful:

I've never used Calibre so I don't know how to walk you through what you're doing step by step. I used to use Mobipocket Creator to build Kindle files from HTML files, but more recently I've been using Amazon's tools:

They're free, simple to use and there's a lot of help available.
